COMMON FRACTIONS AS DECIMALS

Certain fractions are easy to convert to decimal form:

When the denominator is 10, move the decimal in thenumerator one digit to the left

When the denominator is 100, move the decimal in thenumerator two digits to the left

When the denominator is 1000, move the decimal in thenumerator three digits to the left

When the denominator is 4, the decimal form will be amultiple of 0.25

When the denominator is 5, the decimal form will be amultiple of 0.20

When the denominator is 9, 99, or 999 the decimal formwill be a repetition of the numerator

CONVERTING DECIMALS TO PERCENTAGES:

When converting a decimal into a percentage, move thedecimal two digits to the right

This is because “1” is equal to 100%

When you multiply a number by 1, it is the same asmultiplying by 100%

Multiplying by 0.5, is the same as 50%

If you convert a percentage back to decimal form, justmove the decimal to digits to the left
